badjonesrising, art studio shots, work in progress….
I have been waiting weeks and weeks for it to be nice enough outside to paint. Yesterday was a little breezy but I was too stubborn to care. I prepped 4 new wood panels and decided to lay down the first layer. I am painting with oil paint for the first time in a long time, and it feels so good. It’s a work in progress because I am working on a bigger project for my online store. Just thought these were neat “nature” studio shots and wanted to share. Happy friday, and I hope you have a art filled (and beer filled) weekend!
Above: Screen capture of my feature!
SURPRISE! Last night there was a very cool tweet on my timeline that had my name in it. I clicked through and found an awesome feature on some of my paintings (some older and some more recent) and almost had a heart attack! James from The Wallbreakers told me that it was coming and asked me some questions about my work and process. What I didn’t know was that there were going to put the entire quote in the feature! All is good though, because it explains a lot about how I work and why I do what I do.
If you have never heard of the website, you should definitely take a look. It is full of neat underground art, features on finding good artists in the most unlikely of places, and even interviews and videos to spark your creativity. The website is organized and clean, the pages are jam packed with images, and the guys are super cool and professional. Please, take the time out and leave them (and me!) some love on twitter or facebook. Happy Tuesday!
I make art like a read books, too much at one time for the sake of satisfaction. Creating multiples things at once, like reading, keeps me motivated. I thought I would show the big projects I am working on. I have a huge painting, about 5’ tall that is still unfinished. I need a certain color and some special tape to complete it and I don’t think I want to let it go. Like finishing a great novel, you just wish it would last a bit longer…I am also working on some wood panels, for old times sake. I am taking the subject matter directly from my recent sketchbooks. Big, bold, and colorful is the current theme. I want to pay homage to my old, spunky and spontaneous artist-self, back before I became such a perfectionist. The good weather and changing season has put me in a vibrant and vivacious art mode. I had better use it before it withers away with the incoming heat wave and mar I am so working on some tiny sketches for a mixed media book I want to do. This is a big secret so I can’t give too much away. Let’s just say it will be very tactile and you are going to want to reach through your computer screen to grab the pages! The last photo is something I started today. I wanted to work on something in just pencil, black and white. It calms me down and let’s me relax at the art table, which is needed sometimes during different projects. I was tweeting earlier how crazy I am because it’s 12” x 18”! Then I thought about illustrators like Sara Blake and Caitlin Hackett who both do drawings that are at least 5’ x 5’! I stopped complaining and got back to work promptly.
Hope you are enjoying the weather and the weekend. Happy Sunday.
